Thank you for participating in our Byron Fall Festival Battle of Chili fund raiser for the May 2010 Battle of Byron!  This year’s event will be a people’s choice cook-off.  So come on out and have a great time.  Businesses, this is a great way to meet and greet potential customers.  Plus you get to show your rivals just who the best cooks are!

1. BoB defines chili as any kind of meat or combination of meats cooked with chili peppers, various other spices and other ingredients.  By common consent of the Chili Battle Board of Directors, pasta or beans have been deemed acceptable.

2. The entry fee will be $50.00 for the first chili entered and $25 for each additional entry. Contestants may enter more than 1 batch of chili.  A business can pay $75.00 and have a business card put on www.battleofbyron.com.  If paying your entry by check you must submit payment two weeks prior to the event.  A $35 fee will be added to any returned checks.  We will accept cash payment for entry up to the day of the event.

1.   $200.00 cash prize and a 2009 Fall Festival Trophy

2.   $75.00 cash prize and a 2009 Fall Festival Trophy

3.   2009 Fall Festival Trophy

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers will have bragging rights until the fall of 2010.

3. All ingredients must be fresh and prepared at the event.  No electricity or cooking water will be provided. Propane turkey fryers or camping stoves work well for cooking chili. No generators will be allowed. The cooking period will be a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 4 hours.  The start time will be 8 a.m.  You must be ready to cook at the start time.  People’s Choice judging will begin at noon.

4. Contestants are responsible for supplying all of their own utensils & products relating to cooking their chili, its submission, and maintenance of its proper temperature for serving. Condiments will not be provided.

 5. Each contestant must cook a minimum of eight (8) quarts of competition chili. As this is a “People’s Choice” competition all chili will be for public consumption. Those who want to judge for the People’s Choice Award can spend $5 and taste all the chili entries, then vote on their favorites.

6. Each contestant will be assigned a “contestants number” by the Chief Scorekeeper.  Each contestant should post their number in a prominent spot of their cooking area (near the pot to be judged).  “Judges” will mark their ballot with the contestant’s number and deposit it in the ballot box when they are satisfied with their vote.  Votes will be tallied and the contestant with the most votes will be declared the winner.  Second and third place finishers will be decided in the same way.  The second highest number of votes will be placed second and the third highest number will be placed third.

7. Each contestant will be given a 10’ by 10’ area in which to set up in.  You may retain as many cooks as will safely fit in that 10’ by 10’ space.  Each contestant is responsible for policing and cleaning up the area at the end of the day and removing all items from the area. No items shall be allowed to remain after the close of the Chili Battle.
